Georgia
GEORGIA IS REFUSING TO ISSUE AND RENEW TITLES ON CUSTOM
BIKES--CAUSING A LOT OF ANGER AND CONFUSION DOWN HERE.
Last night we had our first meeting concerning
the tag and titles issues of custom motorcycles. Not a
bad turnout on a frosty night with Hank Young, Xtreme
Cycles, Southern Steel, ABATE, FOX 5, Lawbike.com, Steelhorse
Law and several riders on hand. THANK YOU for your participation.
BUT it is going to hundreds of us banding together to
fix the problems that are facing GA's bikers. We have
a few ideas of what direction to take to get started and
we will be sending more information as the pieces come
together. If you have a custom built bike or have built
a kit bike be prepared for some potential problems as
you go for your new tags this year. If you encounter any
problems please email me so we can add you to our growing
list of owners that have had their titles and tags REVOKED.
This is going to be a big deal and we need to fix it before
it really escalates.
There are many other issues and bills
coming up for the legislative session that will also require
our attention. The "right light" bill that will
allow motorcyclists to proceed (after waiting safely)
through lights that have sensing devices that are not
triggered by the weight if the bike. There is also the
"Uninsured motorists (UM) insurance" bill (SB276)that
Chuck Watwood has addressed in this month's magazine.
This will affect you in your cars as well as on your motorcycle.
The insurance lobby is adamant to keep this one down.
It will allow your UM to stack on top of the other parties'
policy. Currently if you have $25K in UM and you are hit
by someone with $25K, you will only receive the $25K.
In most states the two would add together for you to receive
$50K. That is a very simplistic explanation but it gives
you the basics.
How can you help?
First - ABATE is our State's Motorcycle Rights Organization.
They are about more than swap meets and helmets laws.
We need you to join and participate. There is American
Motorcyclists Assoc (AMA), Motorcycle Rights Foundation
(MRF), and National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM).
All are out fighting for your right to own and ride a
motorcycle.
Second- Call, email and/or fax your State
Representatives. They have so many bills and issues in
front of them that they may not even be aware of what
is taking place with these bills. A coordinated effort
will be forthcoming and we will keep you posted.
Third- Stay tuned to these issues and
the more importantly pass this information on to all you
know. We have to increase awareness of these problems.
If you each just pass this information on to 10 people
it will snowball into something huge.
