HR 1253 Likely To Be Voted On, March 30, 2009

It has come to the attention of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation that HR 1253 has been put on the floor schedule of the US House of Representatives for Monday March 30, 2009. The bill, sponsored by Congressman Michael Burgess, will likely be voted on in the early evening. Both MRF Vice President of Government Relations, Jeff Hennie, and MRF Vice President, Michael "Boz" Kerr, will be on Capitol Hill Monday, March 30th monitoring the situation.

In a release of March 17th the MRF had this to say about the bill:

* "If part of a group plan, must be disclosed to plan sponsor in advance of the point of sale of plan;"
* "The plan sponsor and issuer of health insurance coverage provide a description that is easily understandable to the participant prior to

To summarize the legalese, your health insurance provider can limit payment for an injury sustained on a motorcycle so long as it is spelled
out to you in simple terms well in advance of you joining the plan."
