#04NR12 - CALL TO ACTION: House TEA Markup Scheduled For Wednesday

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has learned that the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T & I) Committee plans to begin markup of their proposed reauthorization bill for the Transportation Equity Act (TEA) on Wednesday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. We have arranged for several MRF members to be in attendance at the committee meeting.

The MRF has also learned that, at this writing, House T & I Committee Chair Don Young (R-AK) plans to include the lion's share of the MRF's motorcycle safety initiatives in his chairman's mark of the proposed bill. Links to the House T & I Committee members' e-mail addresses are posted on the MRF website at www.mrf.org/houseteacommittee.php. If you live in one of the states listed below, please visit the MRF website to see if your Congressman is listed. If not, there is no need to contact your Congressman at this time. If so, however, please send a brief, respectful e-mail asking him/her to support the motorcycle safety initiatives in the chairman's mark of this important legislation.

The following 39 states have Congressmen on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

We have all worked hard pushing these initiatives for the past couple of years, and we are almost there! If you are a constituent of one of the House T & I Committee members, please send an e-mail to him/her by close of business on Tuesday, March 23 soliciting support of our motorcycle safety initiatives.
