#04NR03 - MRF REMAINS COMMITTED TO MOTORCYCLE SAFETY

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) continues to receive numerous inquiries regarding the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's (MSF) position regarding the important initiatives contained in the Murkowski Amendment to Improve Motorcyclist Safety. The MRF has appropriately directed those inquiries to key members of the Board of Directors of the MSF for answers.

Unfortunately, the repeated legitimate questions posed by State Motorcyclists' Rights Organizations (SMROs), individual motorcyclists, and rider education professionals seeking further clarification from the MSF have gone unanswered. "This lack of sensitivity is disturbing," said MRF President Karen Bolin. "It is regrettable that the MSF has chosen auto-responds over answers. I am hopeful this will change, and the common goal of protecting the quality and integrity of rider education will prevail."

The MSF's unwillingness to engage with the very people and organizations who have worked to implement rider education in their states has caused unprecedented resentment. "The MSF had the opportunity to take a proactive role in the future of motorcycle safety," said Randy "Hawk" Kenny, National Director, Sons of Liberty Riders. "Instead, for unknown reasons they did not, and they must be held accountable."

"The MSF continues to insult the intelligence of the nation's riders by issuing an auto-respond reply that totally skirts the issues and abandons motorcyclists' concerns with the continuation of rider safety," remarked Betsy Lister, Massachusetts Motorcycle Association Director of Safety Education and Awareness.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation remains committed to ensuring the future of rider education on the national and state levels. With Congress returning, and state legislatures convening, now is the time to focus on solving the problems of diminishing rider education resources and greater demand for rider training. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation remains a willing partner with state, national and professional organizations in seeking solutions and enhancing the future of motorcycle safety.
