#03NR38 - URGENT MRF CALL TO ACTION - MAKE TWO PHONE CALLS TODAY FOR MOTORCYCLE SAFETY!

The Senate Environment & Public Works Committee is considering including the heart and soul of our joint motorcycle safety agenda in TEA-21. We urge you to telephone your U.S. Senators - there is no time for mail - and SIGNAL YOUR SUPPORT TODAY for meaningful motorcycle safety initiatives as this critical committee considers TEA-21.

Call BOTH your U.S. Senators, and urge them to telephone their support of these initiatives to Senator Jim Inhofe, Committee Chairman, or Jim Jeffords, Ranking Member.

These initiatives:

- Are based on the "National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety;"

- Are strongly supported by champions of motorcycle safety in the House, from Steve LaTourette of Ohio to Pete DeFazio of Oregon, and mirror what these Congressmen want to include in TEA on the House side;

- Make crash prevention the priority focus for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's motorcycle safety programs;

- Establish a Motorcyclist Advisory Council in the Federal Highway Administration to ensure dialogue between riders and design engineers on topics such as crash barriers and road maintenance practices, some of which are hazardous to riders; and

- Launch the first Motorcycle Safety Incentive Grant to encourage as well as assist states in delivering rider skill training.

You can find your U.S. Senators' numbers at www.senate.gov or by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121. SMROs are encouraged to email or fax a letter to both U.S. Senators urging them to call Senators Inhofe and Jeffords without delay.

Make the calls today - and make motorcycle safety history!
